Marthe Lea (NOR)

Marthe Lea is a tenor saxophonist, composer, singer and multi-instrumentalist renowned for her innovative and expressive way of maneuvering through the mystery of sound. Highly influenced by jazz, folk music and free improvisation, she creates dynamic and genre-defying music.

Her quintet, Marthe Lea Band, has released the albums «Asura» and «Herlighetens Vei» - two life-affirming records that has received much praise. Her music seamlessly blends elements reminiscent of Don Cherry's early works, incorporating influences from Ethiopian and Gnawa music, as well as Norwegian folk tunes.

Marthe Lea and modular synthesist Egil Kalman have been playing together in different constellations for over 10 years, and for this years festival they will debut as a duo. For this concert they will bring together their shared interest for deep transcendental music traditions from all over the world with free improvisation.
