Egil Kalman (NOR)

Egil Kalman interprets traditional folk music from Norway on the modular synthesizer. Paying close attention to intonation and ornamentation in the source material, these details shine in a new light, with the sound of raw electricity amplifying the inherent trance inducing qualities of the music.

His 2nd LP on iDeal Recordings ‘Forest of Tines, Egil Kalman plays the Buchla 200’ was released last year.

Besides his solo work he’s also active in several groups as a double bass player and synthesist, such as Marthe Lea Band, Miman, Völvur and in duos with Zoe Efstathiou and Fredrik Rasten.

For this years festival Egil will perform in three different occasions; solo, with reed player Marthe Lea and with drummer Hans Hulbækmo. Together they will bring their shared interest for deep transcendental music traditions from all over the world with free improvisation.
